How Google Makes Money
$109B in revenue, and $60.4B of it — well over half — comes from Search alone. Not "Google" broadly, not "Alphabet." Search, by itself, out-earns nearly every company we've charted in this series combined. YouTube ($9.9B) and AdSense ($7.0B) round out advertising to $77.3B total; Cloud contributes $20B, Google Play $12.4B. After cost of revenue ($41.3B, more than a third of which is traffic acquisition costs paid to partners) and opex ($28.9B across R&D, S&M, and G&A), operating profit lands at $39.7B. Net profit is $62.6B — noticeably higher than operating profit minus tax would suggest, because of an unlabeled "other income" gap the source filing itself doesn't break out further. We kept that gap visible rather than smoothing it into the diagram, because pretending the math resolves cleanly would be the less honest chart.
