Frequently Asked Questions

What is NPS?

National Pension System (NPS) is a government-sponsored retirement savings scheme. It invests in equity, corporate bonds, and government securities based on your chosen allocation.

What are the tax benefits of NPS?

Under 80CCD(1), up to ₹1.5 lakh (within 80C limit). Under 80CCD(1B), an additional ₹50,000 deduction exclusive to NPS. Employer contributions under 80CCD(2) up to 10% of salary (14% for central govt).

What happens at NPS maturity?

At age 60, you must use minimum 40% of the corpus to buy an annuity (pension). The remaining 60% can be withdrawn tax-free as a lump sum.

Can I withdraw NPS before retirement?

Partial withdrawal (up to 25% of own contributions) is allowed after 3 years for specific reasons — education, marriage, home purchase, medical treatment. Early exit requires 80% annuity purchase.

What are the NPS asset classes?

Class E (Equity, max 75%), Class C (Corporate Bonds), Class G (Government Securities), Class A (Alternative Assets, max 5%). You can choose Active or Auto choice allocation.
